Egypt State of the Environment Report (SOER) 2017 |
2017 |
2020 |
|
|
CEDARE is assisting the EEAA in developing Egypt’s State of the Environment Report (SOER) for the year 2016. State of the Environment Reporting has been largely the responsibility of governments, through departments or ministries mandated to report to parliament, government or to provide information to the public. Traditional SOER provides information on the environment and trends. This information is very useful to analyse trends in key variables of the environment. To achieve this aim, the SOE report of Egypt will be developed in line with the latest global trends of environmental reporting to ensure credibility, legitimacy, significance and salience, and wide dissemination. The State of the Environment Report (SOER) of Egypt will reflect the national priorities of Egypt that include mitigation and adaptation to climate change according to the outputs of the Paris Agreement 2015. The implicated national priorities also include the decisions and declarations of the African countries whereby Egypt is now the president of the African Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN) for the next two years assisted by the AMCEN Support Unit at the Ministry of Environment. The SOER will also highlight emerging national priority issues of integrated waste management system through the adoption and endorsement of the circular economy. |

CEDARE- Cooperation with the Egyptian National Research Centre |
Cooperation with the Egyptian National Research Centre. |
2020 |
|
جمهورية مصر العربية -مشروع قومي |
CEDARE signed a protocol with the Egyptian National Research Centre during the Launch of the Centre of Excellence for Research and Applied Studies on Climate Change and Sustainable Development (C3SD-NRC). CEDARE is a founding member of the board of the C3SD-NRC and its Steering Committee, along with a distinguished group of national, regional, and international bodies working on addressing climate change as well as its environmental, social, and economic impacts. The C3SD-NRC will play a vital role in establishing research-based methodologies for addressing climate change and its impacts, and in developing sustainable solutions for vulnerable areas in Egypt and the region. It will also provide technical and scientific support to decision makers in the governmental and nongovernmental sectors to bridge the science-policy gap. |

Spatio- temporal Resilience mapping online tool for Egypt (ReMOTE) |
2020 |
2021 |
|
جمهورية مصر العربية -مشروع قومي |
The ReMOTE institutional link between the University of Salford (UK), the National Research Centre (Egypt), CEDARE and DCarbon, is to bridge the gap by developing an analytical mapping tool to analyse and map the population that are most vulnerable to climate change impacts in Egypt. The methodology used relies on categorising climate and socio-economic vulnerability data in three categories namely; exposure, sensitivity, and adaptive capacity. An online spatial portal will be developed to overlay Geographic Information System to calculate the most vulnerable areas according to the identified IPCC criteria and definition. A mobile app will be developed to allow different stakeholders use the data, examine different scenarios and visualize the most vulnerable communities in Egypt. Results of this project provide a platform to enhance the science-policy interface to improve policy-making and planning towards better management of the negative impacts of climate change in Egypt and integrating climate change measures into national policies, strategies and national plans. |
