Tubli is an inshore coastal bay on the eastern side of Bahrain Main Island (Figure 7a). It was
covering an area of about 24 Km in the fourties of the late century. Tubli is a sheltered bay

with large areas of intertidal mudfl ats and the last remaining stand of mangroves in Bahrain.
It is an important nursery area for for commercial shrimp (P. semisulcatus) prawns and
other fished species, as well as a biodiversity “hotspot”’ for birds, with more than 45 species
recorded, and other fauna as well as staging and wintering area for thousands of migratory
waterfowl (Abahussain and Alsabbagh, 2009).
State: Area of Tubli Bay has been much reduced in the last 40 years or so by dredging
reclamation activities around the bay to about 10 Km .
