5 decomposition methods assume the simultaneous occurrence of various trends, the outcome
being sensitive to the sequence chosen. A number of conclusions can be drawn about the
applicability and utility of these methods. Several methods to evaluate changes and measures
exist. All give different results and one is not better than the other, so it is very important that
when presenting the results the method chosen is also explained.

The final step in the policy analysis approach is to develop a policy narrative that summarizes the results
of the policy analysis (steps A-D and the analysis of relative policy impacts, if known). The purpose is to
develop credible statements regarding the adequacy of past and current policy responses for restoring
and maintaining the state of the environment, and facilitating adaptation to impacts.
The policy narrative sheet should have components similar to those illustrated in Table 13

Groundwater Protection in Wadi Ma'awil, Barka town, Oman
(Al-Shoukri,. and Abahussain, 2008).
Introduction
Wadi Ma'awil, in coastal part of Al Batinah Region northern Oman, groundwater is the
main source for water supply. Unfortunately, during the last 30 years this resource has been
deteriorated in terms of quality and quantity
Population growth, economic development, urbanization expansion beside the frequent
drought periods has been associated with increasing water demands. Many anthropogenic
activities such as agricultural and inefficient and inadequate waste management are threatening
groundwater quantity and quality. The heavy reliance on groundwater has caused lowering
of groundwater levels and drying of Aflaj and springs in the interior regions, and causing
seawater intrusion in the coastal areas of Oman. The cost of water contamination and its
